Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is "emission reduction technology" and how does it work?

When GreenTravelPartners purchases verified carbon emissions credits, the money supports projects that have been implemented on livestock farms that reduce the methane (a greenhouse gas 21 times more potent than carbon dioxide as far as global warming is concerned) normally emitted from the animal waste. These projects cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to implement. In order to make these projects sustainable, farmers rely on the revenue they gain from carbon credit programs.

The projects also allow farmers to create their own renewable energy for use on the farm. For example, in the picture above, methane is recaptured off the land. The captured methane is converted to energy for use on the farm. The farmer substitutes that energy for power purchased from traditional sources. That is an example of how emissions-recovery and reuse is good for the environment.
